I decided to base my brochure on the City of Brotherly Love. I am not from Philadelphia, but I believe I have a love for it that is almost comparable to its inhabitants. I know that’s a bit strange for a kid from Jacksonville, Ala., who never lived there, but that doesn’t bother me. It all started for me when I was 8 years old. I walked into a gas station and noticed an Eagles cap. For whatever reason, I fell in love with that midnight green cap. My grandmother decided to buy that cap for me, despite the steep price of $12 at the time, and the snowball effect began. I became an Eagles fan soon after that. They also went to the Super Bowl that year, which didn’t hurt anything. Allen Iverson was also my favorite basketball player already because I played with him on NBA 2K3. Jim Thome was also playing with the Phillies at that time, and he along with the Phillies became my favorites in the baseball realm. With those three decisions made, I decided to extend my fandom to Simon Gagne and the Flyers as well. On top of my sports allegiances, which were already a big enough deal for me to love the city regardless, I was also a fan of cheesesteaks. Food and sports were and still are major priorities in my life, so that solidified my love for the city. I ended up doing a research paper on the state of Pennsylvania during my sixth-grade year, so that convinced my family that we needed to take a trip up there. We visited numerous places in the Northeast, but the highlight was Philadelphia. I enjoyed every second of it. The historical sites were pretty interesting, even for an 11-year-old boy, but the food, atmosphere and the sporting venues, of course, were unbelievable. I love the city of Philadelphia, and I hope you can find the time to experience it as well!
