My name is T.J. Stricklin. I’m an only child, and I’m originally from Jacksonville, Ala. I’m currently a senior at Auburn University majoring in public relations and double minoring in business and sport coaching. I played baseball and basketball in high school, so my passion is still sports, despite no longer playing. I plan on parlaying that passion into a career. I am specifically striving to work in the media relations department of a professional athletic franchise for my future career. In order to prepare, I interned with the Columbus Cottonmouths, a former member of the Southern Professional Hockey League located in Columbus, Ga., throughout my freshman year. Since the beginning of my sophomore year, I’ve been a media relations intern for Auburn Athletics.
Since I started gaining experience from the beginning of my college career, I’ve been able to work for some great organizations. With the Columbus Cottonmouths, I worked office hours and all of their home events. I really enjoyed the experience because I was able to get my feet wet in the sports industry at a young age. I was also able to experience hockey up close and personal in a peculiar area, the Deep South.
With Auburn Athletics, I’ve covered most sporting events offered. I’ve been able to work football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, soccer matches, volleyball matches, men’s and women’s tennis matches, baseball games, softball games, gymnastics meets and even equestrian meets.
I’ve also been able to work some events independently because of the connections I’ve made as an Auburn Athletics intern. I’ve been able to work as a spotter for the SEC Network in gymnastics meets. I’ve also done official stats for ESPN during soccer and volleyball matches. Representing Auburn, I’ve also been able to work SEC events. So far, I’ve been able to work the SEC Baseball Tournament, SEC Media Days and the SEC Football Championship.
